Volunteer Day on September 4 is more than a day of service. It marks the 14th anniversary of the loss of the father of our founder, Alex Sheen—a loss that inspired Alex to start because I said I would and build a charity centered on the importance of keeping promises.

By serving together on this meaningful date, we can turn remembrance into action. Every trail cleared, bench repaired, supply sorted, and task completed helps prepare Camp Because I Said I Would to welcome grieving families and exhausted helpers who need space to heal, rest, and reconnect.

What to Expect

Camp cleanup is not just about rakes and hammers—it is about caring for a place that helps grieving families heal and exhausted helpers rest. Projects may include clearing trails, fixing benches, cleaning around the pond, sorting supplies, and completing other indoor or outdoor tasks that help prepare Camp to serve the people who need it most.

What to Bring

• Protective, closed-toe footwear; no sandals
• Weather-appropriate clothing
• A water bottle

If the weather does not cooperate, we have indoor projects available too.

Who Should Come?

Individuals and groups with a heart to help are welcome. Bring friends, bring family, or come on your own—you will be surrounded by people who care about service and keeping their promises.
