We firmly believe that financial constraints should never stand in the way of healing. While our retreats are fee-based to keep our camp sustainable, we remain deeply committed to keeping these experiences accessible to everyone.
Limited financial assistance sponsorships are available based on space and funding. If you or your family need support to attend, please fill out our 2026 Bereavement Retreat Sponsorship Application. While submitting an application does not guarantee funding, we make every effort to accommodate as many requests as possible.

A Peaceful Place to Step Away
Camp because I said I would sits on a quiet 92-acre property in the rolling hills of Walhonding, Ohio. The peaceful natural setting gives participants room to slow down, reflect, connect, and simply have space away from everyday demands.
Our full October Bereavement Retreat is designed around resilience, community support, practical self-care strategies, and meaningful ways to honor the people we have lost.

Grief Support from Licensed Counselor Jeff Collier
Camp Because I Said I Would is proud to offer the expertise of our staff member and licensed counselor, Jeff Collier, to support families during this time. Jeff provides a compassionate, professional space to help attendees navigate the emotional landscape of loss with dedicated care.

Session Topics:
Limiting Beliefs: Overcoming Self-Imposed Barriers
In this workshop, participants identify common limiting beliefs that may be hindering their healing process. Through discussion and guided activities, they’ll examine how these beliefs shape their grief and how to shift their mindset toward healing.
Stress Management: Deep Breathing & Emotional Regulation
In this interactive workshop, participants acquire simple, evidence-based breathing techniques designed to navigate moments of acute stress. Through guided practice and reflection, they’ll build a personalized toolkit to regulate intense feelings, quiet racing thoughts, and restore inner calm when grief feels overwhelming.
Navigating Your Grief: Tools for Resilience
These workshop sessions, facilitated by Jeff Collier, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC-S) with because I said I would, focus on providing compassionate support and actionable strategies. Together, we will explore:
- Understanding Social Support: An exploration of the diverse emotional landscape of grief, with an emphasis on validating the significance of your unique resilience journey.
- Legacy Mapping: A dedicated space to reflect upon and pay tribute to the lives of those you have lost.
- Carrying Positive Memories Forward: A collaborative session to identify practical, healthy self-care strategies and the resources needed to support your well-being as you move forward.
