Volunteers provide compassionate, reliable behind-the-scenes support throughout our October Bereavement Retreat. If you have a heart for hospitality, empathy, and community support, we would be grateful to have you join us.

- Location: Camp Because I Said I Would, 3483 McCament Rd, Walhonding, OH 43843
- Flexible registration: Choose one or more shift tickets below based on your availability.
- Cost: Volunteer registration is free.
Friday, October 16th (Retreat Kickoff & Welcome)
- Shift A—Welcome & Arrival Support: 9:00 AM–2:00 PM
- Shift B—Dinner & Evening Support: 2:00 PM–8:00 PM
Saturday, October 17th (Healing & Activity Sessions)
- Shift C—Morning & Lunch Support: 8:30 AM–2:00 PM
- Shift D—Afternoon Sessions: 2:00 PM–8:00 PM
Sunday, October 18th (Closing & Departure)
- Shift E—Morning Farewell & Cleanup: 8:30 AM–2:00 PM

Volunteer Requirements & Attire
- Age: All volunteers must be 18 years old or older for this event.
- Attire: Dress comfortably, respectfully, and appropriately for the weather. If you have a Camp T-shirt, you are encouraged—but not required—to wear it.
- Footwear: Comfortable, clean, closed-toe shoes are required for safety across the camp terrain.
- Background check: All volunteers working directly with bereavement retreat guests must have a completed background check.
A note on tone: While we always value positive energy, this retreat calls for a gentle, grounded, and empathetic presence. Our goal is to provide a peaceful, stress-free space for guests.
Volunteer Responsibilities
As part of the Bereavement Retreat Support Team, volunteers may help with:
- Warm welcomes: Greeting arriving families, assisting with parking flow, and directing guests to registration.
- Hospitality and meals: Serving meals and refreshments, keeping dining areas clean, and maintaining a welcoming refreshment station.
- Activity support: Helping staff set up and coordinate healing activities, reflection spaces, and craft workshops.
- Camp comforts: Keeping common areas tidy, helping maintain a peaceful atmosphere, and tending the evening remembrance bonfire for guests.
